Overview
You can use Focus Mode in Microsoft Word to reduce distractions and work only on the document’s content.
How-To Steps
There are several ways to enable Focus Mode:
- Click the View tab and select Focus.

- Search for and select Focus Mode from the search bar.

- Click the Focus icon in the taskbar.

- Press [Alt] + [W] + [O] on your keyboard.
Once Focus Mode is enabled, everything except the document is hidden, including the main Windows toolbar. To view the top and bottom Word toolbars, hover over the ellipsis (…) bar at the top of the screen.

The background color defaults to white (or black in Dark Mode). To change the background color:

- Click the View tab in the top toolbar, select Background, then select the color you want.

To disable Focus Mode, press the [Esc] key on your keyboard. You can also hover over the ellipsis (…) bar at the top of the page and click View > Focus in the top toolbar or click the Focus icon in the bottom toolbar.
